Shelta Pak as a Business and as a Social Enterprise
The Shelta Pak business aims to employ young people through the youth services in the local area to learn the skills of production and warehousing while being paid, and participate in the development of a business that will support their peers in the community.
As orders arrive the local youth service will be contacted and arrangements made with young people (YP) who are willing to learn the business and earn $3 per pak (can sort and pack 10 in an hour) to fill an order. The groups of YP may change or become permanent workers. At the initial stages Irena Morgan and Steph Warlters will organize the procurement of goods and then manage the development of the business until it has enough funds to employ a part-time manager who will coordinate the young people to run the business. Irena will also organize training for the young people in computers and business to augment their work experiences.
To enable the business to grow the paks can be customised for other purposes. This will increase the numbers of YP involved and add a range of products that can be marketed through the Shelta Pak website at www.rotaryredcliffesunrise/shelta-pak.htm
- Weekend Bak Paks e.g. for those going on The Big Day Out, Woodford Folk Festival
- Girls Bak Paks e.g. include more female appropriate products
- Boys Bak Paks e.g. include more female appropriate products
